Note: Newer models (such as the Nest Cam battery, Nest Doorbell battery, Nest Cam IQ, etc.) that aren't listed above can't be set up on a computer. However, these Nest devices are set up with the Google Home app or the Nest app.

  • Connect your camera to your phone or tablet if you haven't previously done so.

  • For Outdoor Nest Cam: Begin by locating your Wi-Fi router and an indoor power outlet within your home. You should walk outside later to test your Wi-Fi connection and mount the Nest cam.

Setting up the Nest camera 

  • Firstly, connect your Nest camera directly to the computer.

  • Use the included USB cable and connect it from the camera to the USB port on the PC.

  • Your camera’s front LED should glow a blue light, indicating that the nest camera is starting up.

  • After a few minutes, the LED light will start to blink. 

Key points to consider:

  • Try not to use Third-party cables as they may not be able to provide enough power.

  • Don't connect your camera to your computer over an external USB hub.

  • If you're having trouble setting up your camera, try a different USB port.

  • Finally, click on Finish Setup and the app will provide you final customization steps. And, verify that the camera can stream video on the network. 

You can bookmark the web Nest app to your default browser to get to your camera video stream and manage its settings quickly. If you face any trouble during the process, you can reset nest camera.

Troubleshoot Nest camera setup issues

You may get one of the following errors during Nest camera setup on computer: 

  • The Nest camera is not connected.

  • The camera is turned off

  • Video is not loading or showing a spinning circle

  • If your Nest app is showing a ‘The camera is off’ error, then click on the ON/OFF switch to turn on the camera.
